About Us

  1. Who we are

Loving God : Loving People

Jesus gave us a clear and incredible command to live by love.  Love others, love your enemies, love people the way you want to be loved. Love with your life, your voice and your actions.  Love.

This love doesn’t have office hours or limits or restrictions – it’s all the time, in all we do.

We are His people, seeking His presence, to carry out His purpose.

We are a diverse, friendly community of people, with strong links to local churches, prioritising relationship with God – through His Son Jesus – and with one another, working together in His mission to see lives transformed.

What we believe

Merstham Baptist Church believe that a relationship with God comes through a personal trust in Jesus Christ.  We are united by a common desire to glorify and serve God in our individual lives, families, church, community and world.

Our Prayer

Thank you Lord, that you love the people of Merstham and your plans for Merstham are good. We declare a new dawn of God’s righteousness in Merstham, where beauty will replace brokenness, justice will replace oppression, good will overcome evil, joy will replace sadness, life will triumph over death and the love of God will reach into every heart. We pray for the rain of your Spirit to fall on this place and soften the spiritual soil.

We ask that you make the church in Merstham an abundantly fruitful vine, to your honour and glory. Amen.

MISSION

Make, Mature, and Multiply Disciple Makers of Jesus.

A Disciple Maker is a disciple who makes disciples.
The eight (8) characteristics of Disciple Makers are:

TRUST IN CHRIST ALONE FOR SALVATION

…repenting of sins and relying solely upon the atonement of Jesus Christ. (Acts 4:12;
Romans 3:21-27; Romans 10:9-10)

LIVE BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

…being filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit, pursuing a life of holiness, bearing the fruit of the Spirit in relating with others, and shepherding others to do the same. (Romans 12:1; Hebrews 12:14;
1 Peter 1:15-16; Galatians 5:14-26; Ephesians 5:18-20; John 15:1-17)

OBEY THE WORD OF GOD

…living out Biblical truths received through study and prayer, loving God and people, and shepherding others to do the same. (Mark 12:30-31; Luke 6:46-49;
James 1:19-27)

SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH UNBELIEVERS

…making the most of every opportunity to evangelise and leading others to do the same. (Mark 16:14-20; Colossians 4:5-6; 1 Peter 3:15)

FULFILL GOD’S GLOBAL MISSION

…investing time, talent and treasure to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth, showing compassion to the poor, and shepherding others to do the same. (Matthew 25:31-46; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:36-49; Acts 1:8)

PURSUIT OF HOLINESS

God, who is holy, commands us to be holy (1 Thessalonians 4:7; 1 Peter 1:15) and present our bodies as holy and acceptable to him (Romans 12:1).  We are to confess our sins to each other and pray for each other (James 5:16).

UNITY WITHIN THE CHURCH
Psalm 133 – ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’
