Prayer Rhythms’

It’s important that we find time to be still during the busyness of life to reflect on scripture and think upon Jesus himself. These prayers and scriptures can be used as daily rhythms of prayer, to help us in praying for ourselves, others and the world around us.

“Canticle”

Christ, as a light

Illumine and guide me.

Christ, as a shield

Overshadow me.

Christ under me;

Christ over me;

Christ beside me

On my left and my right.

This day be within and without me,

Lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.

Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;

In the mouth of each who speaks unto me.

This day be within and without me,

Lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.

Christ as a light;

Christ as a shield;

Christ beside me

On my left and my right.

(From Patrick’s Breastplate)

The Lords prayer

Our Father in Heaven

Hallowed be Your name,

Your Kingdom come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread

And forgive us our sins

As we forgive those who sin against us.

And lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil.

For yours is the kingdom the power and the glory

Forever and ever, amen.

The Caleb prayer

O high King of Heaven,

Have mercy on our land.

Revive your church;

Send the Holy Spirit for the sake of the children.

May Your Kingdom come to our nation.

In Jesus mighty name. Amen

Numbers 46:24-26

The Lord bless us and watch over us; the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us; the lord look kindly on us and give us his peace. Amen.

Prayer for Merstham

Thank you Lord, that you love the people of Merstham and Your plans for Merstham are good.

We declare a new dawn of God’s righteousness in Merstham,

Where beauty will replace brokenness,

Justice will replace oppression,

Good will overcome evil,

Joy will replace sadness,

Life will triumph over death

And the love of God will reach into every heart.

We pray for the rain of Your Spirit to fall on his place and soften the spiritual soil.

We ask that You make the Church in Merstham an abundantly fruitful vine,

To Your honour and glory.

Amen.

Psalm 46:10-11

“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The Lord of heaven’s armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Amen

Ancient Celtic prayer

God to enfold me,

God to surround me,

God in my speaking,

God in my thinking.

God in my sleeping,

God in my waking,

God in my watching,

God in my hoping.

God in my life,

God in my lips,

God in my soul,

God in my heart.

God in my sufficing,

God in my slumber,

God in mine ever-living soul,

God in mine eternity.

Psalm 23 (NIV)

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

For you are with me; Your rod and yoTur staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
